Key scenes:
A key scene within the film is when the protagonist, Lena Haloway, played by Emma Roberts says to her friend that she believes in the cure. (which is to stop people getting the disease love). This is a key scene as already the audience know that teenagers have already been brainwashed into not not believing in Love. This is also important as although she says she believes in the cure, other people don't and try to run away. This scene, in which she says she believes in the cure, is important as it sets up the main message within the film, which is that people cant help falling in love. Later on in the film we see that Lena doesn't want the cure as she has fallen in love with one of the police officers who also hasn't had the cure. This shows to the audience that although people think they know what is best for them, they may not be right.
Micro-features:
Mise-en-scene is important in Delirium because the place in which the film is located is designed. The film is based around trying to stop the disease love from infecting teenagers as they have not had the cure yet. So the town where the film is set is surrounded by fences to stop rebels getting in and all the boys are divided from the girls (e.g. different schools). This is important in the film because it helps show to the audience that everyone wants to try and avoid love. It also shows that they take it very seriously and that if people who fall in love get caught, then there could be serious consequences, backing up the fact that the film is a thriller as the audience is constantly in certain to what could happen.
Comparables:
A similar film to Delirium is "The Giver"(2014 Phillip Noyce) because it to is about a society where the real world has been edited (no colour and strict rules) in order to keep people in line. This is similar to Delirium as in both films the protagonist trie and defy the rules that are set in order to try and feel human.
