Delirium!!

DELIRIUM!! (T.V film)

Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Writer: Lauren Oliver
Key Cast: Emma Roberts, Greg Sulkin, Billy Campbell.
Genre: Thriller Romance
Themes: Love, Betrayal, Friendship and deceit
Release: June 2014
Budget: ?

Key scenes:
A key scene within the film is when the protagonist, Lena Haloway, played by Emma Roberts says to her friend that she believes in the cure. (which is to stop people getting the disease love). This is a key scene as already the audience know that teenagers have already been brainwashed into not not believing in Love. This is also important as although she says she believes in the cure, other people don't and try to run away. This scene, in which she says she believes in the cure, is important as it sets up the main message within the film, which is that people cant help falling in love. Later on in the film we see that Lena doesn't want the cure as she has fallen in love with one of the police officers who also hasn't had the cure. This shows to the audience that although people think they know what is best for them, they may not be right.

Micro-features:
Mise-en-scene is important in Delirium because the place in which the film is located is designed. The film is based around trying to stop the disease love from infecting teenagers as they have not had the cure yet. So the town where the film is set is surrounded by fences to stop rebels getting in and all the boys are divided from the girls (e.g. different schools). This is important in the film because it helps show to the audience that everyone wants to try and avoid love. It also shows that they take it very seriously and that if people who fall in love get caught, then there could be serious consequences, backing up the fact that the film is a thriller as the audience is constantly in certain to what could happen.

Comparables:
A similar film to Delirium is "The Giver"(2014 Phillip Noyce) because it to is about a society where the real world has been edited (no colour and strict rules) in order to keep people in line. This is similar to Delirium as in both films the protagonist trie and defy the rules that are set in order to try and feel human.

Director: Jake Schreier
Writer: John Green
Genre: Mystery Drama.
Themes: Love, friendship, desperation
Release: July 2015
Budget: £12,000,000

Key Scenes: An important scene within the movie is when Quentin (Nat Wolf) finds Margo (Cara Delevingne). This shows to the audience that Quentin has reached his mission/goal within the film. He is the hero that gets the princess. But, we find out that Margo didn't want to be found. This stops the film in its tracks putting Quentin in an awkward situation. But this is an important scene as Quentin heads back home he realises the trip was not about finding Margo but making new friends and going on an adventure with his friends.

Micro-features: Performance is important in this film as it is all abut the feelings that Quentin has for Margo. The performance helps the audience to understand why Quentin is so determined to find Margo. He is a shy person who has a crush on a girl that he sees is out of his league. He is determined to find her because he wants to tell her how he feels. Quentin becomes more desperate and agitated the longer it takes for them to find Margo. The performance shows that he becomes more emotional when he is not able to work out the clues that Margo has left him, showing to the audience how much he wants to find her.

Erin Brockovich

ERIN BROCKOVICH.

Key cast: Julia Roberts, Aaron Eckhart
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Writer: Susannah Grant
Genre: Drama
Themes: romance, family, crime
Release: March 2000
budget:$52,000,000

Erin Brockovich, a single unemployed mother, brings down a power company that have been accused of causing the pollution in the city's water system causing serious illnesses to a lot of the residents. (This is based on a true story).

Key scenes: An important scene which is shown at the beginning of the film is when Erin takes her children to the diner. She lets her children order what they like but doesn't get any food for herself. This is due to the fact that she is in debt after she doesn't the money from the car accident she had. This shows to the audience that she puts her children first. Although she doesn't have a lot pf money, she still tries to do the bet thing by her kids. This makes the audience feels connected with Erin as they know that she is caring and that she loves her children.

Micro-features:
Mise-en-scene is an important micro feature as in the beginning of the film we see Erin's house that has leaky pipes and cockroaches. This is important as it shows us why she was so desperate to get a job but also work in a place se had no experience with. She was desperate for the money. At the beginning of the film she was just thinking about the money and how she could clear her debt and support her children, but as the film progressed it ended up being more about helping the people get what they deserved. The mise-en-scene showed to the audience that she didn't own much and that she struggled to feed both her kids and herself due to the lack of food in her house. This is why we want Erin to succeed.

Comparables: A film similar to Erin Brockovich is North Country (2005 starring Charlize Theron, Jeremy Renner and Amber Heard). North Country is also based on a true story about getting rights for women in the coal mines. This is similar at is also a huge case within American History and it tells the story of how one women also managed to bring down a business in order for the right thing to be done.

CLOVERFIELD!!

Cloverfield.

Key Cast: Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, Odette Annable, Michael Stahl-David.
Director: Matt Reeves.
Writer: Drew Goddard.
Genre: Action/Horror
Themes: Friendship, Romance, Survival.
Release: 2008
Budget: 25,000,000

A group of friends are on a rescue mission to save their friend after a monster attacks New York City.

Micro-features:
Cinematography is important as the whole film is shown through a handheld camera. The events that unfold in New York City is recorded by the one of the friends from the group. This is important as it is used to show to the audience exactly what the characters are seeing and experiencing. It also makes the audience feel as if they are along side the main characters, being apart f all the chaos. Throughout the film, what is going on is not always clear as the camera is constantly moving and doesn't always capture everything. This makes the audience as clueless as the characters in the film. The handheld camera affect makes the audience more tense as not everything is revealed. This fits in with the horror genre as a lot of horror movies use the handheld camera affect to scare the audience (e.g The Gallows).

Key Scenes: A key scene within Clover field is at the end of the film where Rob and Beth are under the bridge trying to hide from the monster and the bombs that have been set up to kill it. This is an important scene as through out the film Rob has done everything to keep him and his friends alive and save Beth. At this point in the film, Rob and Beth realise that they are going to die. They record themselves confessing their love for each other. This is an important scene as the main mission in the film is to be with Beth, now that Rob is with Beth he has fulfilled his task and now accepts that they aren't going to be alive for much longer. This goes against what the audience would of expected from the film as normally the hero gets the girl and lives happily ever after. In this film that is not the case. This exceeds the audiences expectations.

Comparable: A similar film to Cloverfield is Paranormal activity. It also uses a handheld camera to document what is going on. Both films show different severities of a catastrophe, for example Cloverfield is about a city catastrophe and Paranormal activity is based on an event that is targeting a specific family. The handheld camera makes the film full of suspense as the audience can literally see the character nerves and chaos from the movements of the camera.

Storyboard- Coursework-Blonde.

The film opens with a black screen. During this scene there will be a voice over of the police report about Josey being missing. The scene will then cut to Kristen.

Kristen (the protagonist) will be shown making sandwiches. She is in a rush so she throws the sandwiches together and making a mess. This will be a mid shot. The sounds in the background will be the kettle boiling and the noise she makes making the sandwiches.

It will cut back to Kristen feeding her cat. Again she is in a rush. She throws the food in to the bowl and quickly strokes the cat. This will also use a mid shot and a close up to show the audience who the protagonist is. The sounds will be the her scrapping out the tin (diegetic sounds).

It will cut back the protagonist aggressively throwing the food that she has made into the bag along with rope and duct tape. This will be a combination of P.O.V shots and mid shots. Sounds will be diegetic, so the sounds of her throwing the items in the bag.
Cuts back to Kristen running to the door with her bag over her shoulder. She slams the door behind her. Sounds will be the loud noise of the door slamming shut. This will be a long shot. As the door shuts it will cut to the next shot.

In this scene the protagonist walks slowly up to a small shelter in the woods where the missing girl Josey is. Kristen slowly walks up and kneels down next to her. Josey backs away and Kristen signals her to be quiet. Kristen then opens her bag, pulls out the duct tape and sticks it over Josey's face. Kristen smiles.
This will be a combination of long shots, close ups, over the shoulder and mid shots.
The sounds will include the wind picking up and the leaves rustling.
The scene cuts to black.
Then the voice over of the police report comes on again but announcing that Josey's body has been found.
Then the title fades onto screen followed by the credits.
